Empowering Inclusion: Project Spark’s Upcoming Event for Community Employment
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is set to host an engaging event aimed at fostering employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The initiative, known as Project Spark, is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and seeks to assist people with I/DD in finding and maintaining meaningful jobs within their communities, promoting a shift from subminimum wage positions to competitive employment environments.
The “Ignite Your Future” resource fair is designed to provide a comprehensive array of employment and support services for attendees. Participants will gain access to personalized benefits counseling sessions, group informational meetings, and can interact with professionals in vocational rehabilitation, independent living, assistive technology, and healthcare.
Networking opportunities will be available throughout the event, with a peer mentor panel scheduled during the lunch break. The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required to receive a complimentary lunch. Interested individuals can register on the Eventbrite website. Walk-ins are also welcome throughout the day.
Project Spark continues to make strides in enhancing economic opportunities and self-sufficiency for North Carolinians with I/DD. This event highlights its dedication to empowering individuals to earn competitive wages, foster connections, and make valuable contributions to their communities. Through benefits counseling, job placement, coaching, peer mentoring, and post-employment support, Project Spark remains committed to its mission.
