Experience the echoes of ancient civilizations this August at the North Carolina State Capitol. The “Ancient Inspirations” tour series invites visitors to delve into the profound influence of Greek and Roman ideas on modern North Carolina and America.
Happening every Saturday throughout August, these tours explore diverse topics from ancient symbolism in art and architecture to fundamental concepts like citizenship, voting, military service, governance, and scientific advancements. This initiative is part of the efforts by the Division of State Historic Sites under the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR).
The tours are scheduled to commence at 1 p.m. on Aug. 8, 15, 22, and 29. They start outside but primarily occur within the Capitol building. Open to the public without charge, no prior reservation is needed, and walk-ins are welcome. The tour content is suitable for most age groups, though it is recommended for ages 10 and above. Upon arrival, participants should check in at the Capitol rotunda’s front desk.
The Capitol is situated at 1 E. Edenton St., Raleigh. Guests can find parking at metered spaces around the square managed by the City of Raleigh or in the N.C. Museum/Government Center state parking lot at 100 E Jones St.
