Businessman Charged with Felony Tax Offenses in North Carolina
A prominent businessman from Durham County has been taken into custody following serious allegations of tax-related crimes. On Monday, July 20, Ubaldo Torres Rodriguez, aged 56, faced arrest due to felony tax charges levied by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Rodriguez holds the position of president and is the responsible figure at both Sun HS Warehouse Group, LLC and Sun HS Warehouse of Burlington, LLC. It is alleged that he played a significant role in aiding and abetting these businesses to illegally divert and misuse North Carolina Sales Taxes.
The indictment details assert that Rodriguez was involved in the embezzlement of $273,978.92 in sales taxes through Sun HS Warehouse Group, LLC, spanning from January 1, 2016, to October 31, 2017, and continuing from June 1, 2018, to November 30, 2024. Furthermore, Rodriguez is accused of facilitating the embezzlement of $151,108.23 in sales taxes through Sun HS Warehouse of Burlington, LLC, during the period from February 1, 2018, to July 31, 2024.
Following his arrest, Rodriguez appeared before a magistrate in Wake County where he was placed under a $200,000 unsecured bond. His first court appearance is set for July 27, 2026, in Wake County Superior Court, located in Raleigh.
The investigation leading to these charges was carried out by special agents from the Criminal Investigations Division of the Department in Raleigh.
