Dickinson Avenue Section Reopens; Next Phase Construction Set to Begin

Infrastructure Enhancements on Dickinson Avenue Progress with New Phase

GREENVILLE – The city saw a significant milestone on Monday as a newly improved segment of Dickinson Avenue was reopened to traffic, signaling progress in ongoing infrastructure upgrades. As work continues, the next phase of the project is poised to commence on Tuesday.

The recently completed section, stretching from Skinner Street to the railroad overpass, was enhanced by contract crews working under the N.C. Department of Transportation. Improvements included an overhaul of the storm drainage systems, the road’s subgrade, driving surface, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.

This roadwork is part of a strategic plan to upgrade the three-lane road leading into Uptown Greenville, executed in sections to minimize inconvenience for drivers, pedestrians, and local businesses.

Moving forward, construction will shift to “Section 2,” which covers the area between Wilson Street and the intersection at Moye Boulevard/Hooker Road, beginning Tuesday. This part of the road will be closed to through-traffic until the project’s expected completion in October.

During the Section 2 upgrades, businesses will remain accessible to the public. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Memorial Drive, 10th Street, and Evans Street to bypass construction. Commuters should plan for the detour and exercise caution near the construction zones.

Further details on the construction timeline, phasing, and impact can be found on the Dickinson Avenue project webpage.
