STEM Saturdays: Engaging Las Vegas in a World of Science
The Nevada National Security Sites’ (NNSS) much-loved STEM Saturdays program has successfully wrapped up its fourth season, drawing in over 500 eager participants during the 2025-2026 school year. This innovative initiative, a collaboration among NNSS, the Clark County School District, and the Atomic Museum, offers the Las Vegas community a hands-on approach to learning about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Throughout the past eight months, participants of all ages had a chance to engage directly with STEM experts. They explored exciting activities such as drone piloting, high-speed projectile launching, and real-time 3D digital modeling alongside NNSS engineers. The program also featured unique experiences like operating a fire hose with NNSS Fire & Rescue. Notable sessions included a presentation by the Nevada Flight Crew and a special event marking the NNSS 75th anniversary at the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum.
Since its debut, STEM Saturdays has significantly impacted the Las Vegas community, reaching thousands and sparking interest in STEM fields. The program is designed to inspire future scientists, engineers, and innovators by exposing participants to a wide array of STEM subjects. Held monthly during the school year, these free events take place at the Atomic Museum.
Brianna Majdanac, outreach coordinator at NNSS, noted the growth of the program, stating, “Watching STEM Saturdays grow over the past four years has been such a rewarding experience. The enthusiasm and expertise NNSS presenters bring to each session has been crucial in growing the program. Not only do attendees learn about the mission-critical work performed at the NNSS, but they engage with the presenters one-on-one to discuss the available pathways to pursue a career in STEM. As STEM Saturdays continues to grow and new community partnerships are developed, the NNSS continues to make a huge impact on STEM education in Southern Nevada.”
Looking ahead, the STEM Saturdays series will return in the fall for the 2026-2027 academic year. In the meantime, NNSS invites students, families, and community members to participate in additional free STEM activities at the Las Vegas Science & Technology Festival Giant Expo. This event, sponsored by NNSS, will be held on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Expo at World Market Center. Admission is free, offering a day full of unique science and technology experiences and entertainment.
