Controversy Deepens for Nevada Candidate Over Alleged Donations From Deceased Individuals
In a series of startling revelations, David Flippo, a Republican candidate for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, faces increasing scrutiny over campaign contributions attributed to deceased individuals. Latest investigations by prominent publications have linked his campaign to questionable financial practices, raising serious ethical concerns.
Allegations of Misattributed Donations
The Washington Sun recently reported that Flippo’s campaign recorded a donation from Val Sheldon, who passed away in 2019. This follows an earlier Wall Street Journal report about a similar donation from Marilynn Mack, a deceased philanthropist.
Federal laws allow political contributions from an estate if arranged as “testamentary bequests” before death. However, Val Sheldon’s donation does not appear to qualify. The Flippo campaign had reattributed $143.56 of this donation from a larger amount initially credited to Bret Sheldon, a Nevada resident. Bret Sheldon claimed to be unaware of this until contacted by The Sun.
Unanswered Questions and Campaign Turmoil
The Flippo campaign has not provided documentation confirming consent from Bret Sheldon or the identity verification of Val Sheldon. Moreover, the campaign declined to clarify how it identified Val Sheldon.
These dead-donor allegations add to Flippo’s mounting troubles, which also include accusations of campaign finance violations and exaggerations of his military service. Additionally, his history of controversial job terminations has fueled further skepticism.
Representative Mark Amodei expressed his disapproval, stating, “You just sit here looking at this stuff, it’s like it all looks like bullshit to me. I’m going to say this ain’t my guy.”
