Saddle-Started Wild Horse Adoption Event at NNCC on Feb 21, 2026

Upcoming Wild Horse Adoption Event Scheduled at NNCC

The Bureau of Land Management in collaboration with the Nevada Department of Corrections (NNCC) – Silver State Industries is set to host a saddle-started wild horse adoption event. This notable event will take place at the NNCC on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

This event will showcase up to 19 saddle-trained wild horses and a wild burro, all trained by inmates at the NNCC. These animals, originating from herd management areas across California, Nevada, Wyoming, and Oregon, range in age from three to nine years and exhibit a variety of weights and colors. Each has undergone a minimum of 120 days of training through this inmate-led program.

Ruth Thompson, the BLM Nevada Wild Horse and Burro State Lead, shared her enthusiasm by stating, “NNCC continues to do a great job training and showcasing these animals. I am excited for the upcoming saddle trained adoption event. The horses and burro are coming along well with their training.”

For those interested, a catalog featuring the animals up for adoption alongside additional details can be accessed online at the NNCC webpage. The catalog is available at the following link: https://www.blm.gov/sites/default/files/docs/2026-02/Wildhorses_NNCC_21Feb2026_AdoptionCatalog.pdf

Located at 1721 Snyder Avenue, south of Carson City, Nevada, the NNCC will open its doors to the public for viewing at 9:00 a.m., with a competitive-bid adoption event starting at 10:00 a.m. An auctioneer will conduct the adoption, and the initial bid for each animal is set at $150.

Adopters are advised to enter the NNCC facility from the north side and follow signs and event personnel guidance to the horse corrals and parking area located at the extreme south end of the premises. Note that the use of cell phones, cameras, recording devices, or any form of tobacco is strictly prohibited on the premises unless previously approved.
