Rising ACA Costs Leave Nevadans Struggling Amid Political Challenges

Many ACA Marketplace Users Face Financial Strain as Insurance Costs Rise

Recent findings reveal that a significant portion of Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace users are unable to manage potential premium hikes. With impending increases, some Nevadans could face annual premiums up to $18,100, which is attributed to policies endorsed by Joe Lombardo and supported by Washington Republicans.

As residents turn to emergency savings for survival, Lombardo applauded a budget plan that could strip 115,000 Nevadans of their healthcare and neglect to continue expanded ACA tax credits, affecting an additional 110,000 people. This comes after his team’s misleading statements about Medicaid cuts.

Health costs in Nevada have surged faster than in any other state. Despite this, Lombardo vetoed legislation aimed at reducing prescription drug prices after receiving substantial campaign funding from pharmaceutical companies and has criticized the state public option as “bullshit,” which could potentially provide more affordable healthcare options to Nevadans.

Marketplace Enrollees Express Financial Concerns

  • A poll from the nonpartisan health organization KFF indicates that a sharp increase in ACA marketplace insurance costs next year is unaffordable for many Americans.
  • Nearly 60% of those surveyed cannot afford an annual premium increase of $300, and an additional 20% are unable to manage a $1,000 rise.
  • Approximately 90% of respondents stated that affording health insurance would be challenging if they had to purchase outside the ACA marketplace.
  • Confidence in Republicans addressing these rising costs is low, with only 9% of enrollees expressing a lot of confidence in GOP lawmakers, while 42% reported having no confidence at all.
