Reno Rodeo Association Boosts Accessibility at Idlewild Park Splash Pad
The City of Reno is set to enhance inclusivity and accessibility at Idlewild Park’s Splash Pad, thanks to a generous $120,000 grant from the Reno Rodeo Association. This initiative aims to improve the experience for children and families of all abilities, offering more inclusive play opportunities.
The allocated funds will focus on adding new features and enhancing existing ones to better serve individuals with disabilities. These improvements will focus on usability, safety, and access, making the splash pad a more welcoming summer attraction for everyone in the area.
Ward 2 Councilmember Naomi Duerr expressed gratitude for the contribution, stating, “We’re so thankful for this generous gift from the Reno Rodeo Association to help improve one of our community’s favorite park amenities.” She highlighted the significance of community partnerships in driving positive change throughout the city.
The grant originates from the Reno Rodeo Association’s Special Kids Fund, which gathers voluntary tips during the annual Reno Rodeo. These funds are then channeled into community projects that support children and individuals with disabilities in Northern Nevada.
George Combs, the general manager of the Reno Rodeo Association, commented on the project, saying, “Reno Rodeo is honored to be able to give back to the community and help with making life better for children with disabilities.” He emphasized how the project aligns with the association’s mission to enhance the lives of those in the community.
The financial contribution will be disbursed in two parts over 2026, dedicated solely to the splash pad’s accessibility enhancements. Construction is slated to begin in September 2026, with completion anticipated by spring 2027.
