Prescribed Fires Scheduled North of Battle Mountain, NV in Spring 2026

Prescribed Burns Scheduled North of Battle Mountain, NV

ELKO, Nev. – A series of prescribed burns have been scheduled from March 23, 2026, to May 30, 2026, on public lands situated roughly 26 miles north of Battle Mountain, Nevada.

The primary purpose of these controlled fires is to manage the buildup of tumbleweeds along existing fence lines. This initiative aims to enhance wildlife movement, improve habitat conditions, and mitigate the risk of potentially destructive wildfires.

The operation will be supported by several wildland firefighting teams, including command staff and a utility vehicle equipped for fire suppression. The prescribed burns will proceed only under favorable weather conditions as outlined in the fire management plan. Public access to the area will not be restricted, and roads will remain open throughout the duration. Historically, burns in this type of fuel and location have been brief, with limited smoke impact.
