State of the Union Address Sparks Concerns Over Economic Challenges in Nevada
In response to Donald Trump’s State of the Union, Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno shared her concerns:
“Tonight, Donald Trump will deliver his State of the Union address to Nevada working families drowning in sky-high costs, steep health care cuts, and one of the worst unemployment rates in the nation. A year after promising to lower costs on Day One, the Lombardo-Trump agenda is leading our state deeper into crisis.
“After helping Trump get elected and embracing his endorsement, Joe Lombardo still refuses to defend Nevadans against Trump’s cost-raising agenda and even said families need to ‘feel a little pain’ from his illegal tariffs.
“While Trump wrecks our economy, jacks up costs, and rips health care away from tens of thousand Nevadans, Lombardo will be the only one cheering him on as he spews more broken promises. The bottom line: thanks to Trump and Lombardo, the state of our union is unaffordable.”
Economic Strains on Nevadans
- Lombardo has not opposed Trump’s trade policies, which have increased costs, stating that Nevadans should “feel a little pain” from tariffs.
- Nevada’s economy continues to struggle with high unemployment rates, exacerbated by declining tourism and travel to the state decline.
- Lombardo vetoed affordable housing legislation aimed at preventing corporate ownership from pricing locals out of the housing market and stopping landlords from abusing tenants.
- Lombardo expressed enthusiasm for the GOP budget, despite it being detrimental to Nevada, which is severely impacted by funding cuts and health care reductions.
- Silence from Lombardo on the cancellation of infrastructure projects by the Trump administration threatens thousands of jobs and increases utility costs.
