Las Vegas Public Lands Temporarily Closed for 2026 Mint 400 Race

Las Vegas Public Lands to Close Temporarily for Mint 400 Race

In anticipation of the 2026 Mint 400 off-highway vehicle race, the Las Vegas Field Office has announced a temporary closure of certain public lands. Slated for March 6-7, 2026, this closure aims to ensure safety, reducing the likelihood of collisions between spectators and racers.

The affected area, known as the Jean/Roach Dry Lakes Special Recreation Management Area, is delineated by Hidden Valley to the north, McCullough Mountains to the east, the California State line to the south, and Nevada State Route 604 to the west. Access to this area is restricted exclusively to law enforcement, emergency services, event personnel, ticketed spectators, and race participants. Attendees are required to stay within designated zones.

During this period, several activities are prohibited unless specifically authorized. These restrictions include:

  • Camping.
  • Possessing or consuming alcoholic beverages if under 21 years of age.
  • Use or discharge of firearms or weapons.
  • Possession or discharge of fireworks.
  • Having unrestrained pets; all animals must be leashed or restrained with a maximum length of 3 feet.
  • Operating non-registered vehicles such as ATVs, motorcycles, UTVs, and golf carts, except registered race vehicles.
  • Parking in violation of restrictions, obstructing traffic or creating safety hazards, with the risk of citation, removal, and impoundment at the owner’s cost.
  • Driving through or around barriers and traffic control devices.
  • Failing to control vehicles to prevent danger.
  • Driving vehicles carelessly or exceeding 25 mph.

Event organizers will provide signage and maps to guide the public to approved spectator areas. These restrictions do not apply to emergency and government vehicles or those with event permits.

The authority for these closures is outlined in 43 CFR 8340 subpart 8341, 43 CFR 8360 subpart 8364.1, and 43 CFR 2932. For further details on the closure, contact Courtney King, Outdoor Recreation Planner at the BLM Las Vegas Field Office, 4701 N Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130, or call 702-515-5027.
