Joe Lombardo’s Stance on Tariffs Sparks Debate Amidst Economic Challenges
As gas prices soar and the job market tanks, Joe Lombardo said Donald Trump is doing a “fantastic job”
Joe Lombardo’s recent interview with the Nevada Independent has reignited discussions about his unwavering support for Donald Trump, especially regarding contentious tariff policies. Nevada Democrats have launched a series titled “5 Days, 5 Ways Joe Lombardo is out of touch with Nevadans,” highlighting the governor’s continued endorsement of tariffs that have financially burdened local families.
Lombardo’s stance has drawn criticism, particularly his view that Nevadans should not receive a refund for tariffs he backed. These tariffs have reportedly added $1,700 to the annual cost of essential goods for Nevada families. Despite the financial strain, Lombardo claims there are “definite benefits” to these tariffs, asserting, “because of [tariff] revenue, we’re domesticating manufacturing. We’re domesticating jobs back into the United States. That number has increased significantly.” However, statistics indicate a decline in U.S. manufacturing employment, with a reduction of 88,000 jobs in 2025, as reported by NBC News.
Kate Sosland, spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party, voiced the concerns of many residents, stating, “From families dipping into emergency savings to keep afloat to small businesses bracing to shut down, Nevadans have felt enough ‘pain’ from the Lombardo-Trump tariffs.” She further criticized Lombardo, suggesting that he should offer practical solutions to alleviate the financial challenges facing Nevadans rather than aligning with Trump.
