Health Care Concerns Escalate as Economic Pressures Mount in Nevada
Joe Lombardo praises Trump amidst economic and healthcare challenges
Amid rising gas prices and a faltering job market, the focus has shifted to Joe Lombardo’s handling of healthcare issues in Nevada. Recent developments have exacerbated the situation, as a Boulder City hospital had to cease operations and dismiss nearly 100 employees, attributed to cuts in Medicaid under the Trump administration. This occurred concurrently with a new advertisement by Lombardo’s dark money group, attempting to address his contentious healthcare record.
Lombardo’s assertion that his advertisement is “not just political theater” comes as many Nevada residents face significant financial strain. Health insurance premiums have surged by 34%, leading to an additional $800 monthly cost per person. Furthermore, residents have incurred an extra $1,700 due to tariffs attributed to Lombardo and Trump.
While Nevada’s healthcare expenses have escalated more rapidly than those in other states, Lombardo has voiced his support for Trump’s healthcare policies, which are set to increase ACA premiums, displace 115,000 Nevadans from their healthcare plans, and compel hospitals to reduce services and staff. Additionally, Lombardo has opposed the state’s public option, which provides more affordable health plans, and has received significant financial contributions from the pharmaceutical industry after vetoing legislation aimed at reducing prescription costs.
“The very same week that Joe Lombardo went on air trying to spin his disastrous health care record, a rural hospital closed most of its functions and laid off nearly 100 staff — all because he refused to stand up to Donald Trump’s cuts,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Kate Sosland. “Nevadans deserve a governor who fights to lower costs, but instead, Lombardo is doing the bidding of Trump and special interests.”
