High Rock Canyon Road Reopens for Outdoor Enthusiasts
Visitors to High Rock Canyon can once again enjoy its rugged beauty as the road is now accessible for the season. Spanning fourteen miles, this canyon in Gerlach, Nevada, offers a variety of activities like hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-roading. The road is typically closed yearly from around February 1st, following the end of the chukar hunting season, until the second weekend in May. This closure helps protect nesting raptors and lambing bighorn sheep. As of May 9, 2026, adventurers can explore this natural wonder.
Those planning a trip to High Rock Canyon should be well-prepared for the journey. The terrain is quite rugged and remote, necessitating the use of four-wheel drive, high-clearance vehicles. It’s advisable to carry multiple full-size spare tires and extra water. Additionally, camping is only permitted at designated sites.
