The serenity of Nevada’s Virginia Range is set for a transformation with the introduction of a new infrastructure project aimed at enhancing safety for both humans and wildlife. The Bureau of Land Management’s Sierra Front Field Office has greenlit the Nevada Department of Agriculture’s plan to construct a 14-mile wildlife-safe fence through sections of Carson City, Storey, and Washoe counties.
This initiative seeks to address growing concerns regarding the safety of wild horses and the local community. By preventing these animals from straying into populated areas and public roads, the fence is anticipated to significantly reduce the frequency of dangerous interactions and accidents. Comprehensive surveys covering biological, cultural, and environmental aspects have concluded that the fence can be built with minimal impact on the area’s natural and cultural resources.
