February 2026 Wild Horse Adoption Event Cancelled Due to Storms

RENO, Nev. — A significant change has been announced regarding the upcoming wild horse adoption event in Nevada. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Nevada Department of Corrections’ Silver State Industries have decided to cancel the event originally scheduled for February 2026.

Ruth Thompson, BLM Nevada’s Wild Horse and Burro Specialist, explained, “Due to the recent storms, we felt that for both the animals and the public it was appropriate to cancel the adoption.” She further added, “NNCC takes great pride on the level of training of their horses to ensure successful long-term homes, and we are also concerned that road travel within the next week could continue to be an issue.”

The saddle-trained horses initially planned for the February event will now be available for adoption from March 9 to March 16, 2026, through the Online Corral. The designated pickup location is the Palamino Valley Wild Horse Center in Reno, with specific pickup times to be announced on the following webpage: Wild Horse and Burro Online Corral – Home.

Further details on this collaboration, including both past and upcoming event catalogs, can be accessed online at https://on.doi.gov/2jE05uy.
