BLM Seeks Public Input on Montezuma Gold Exploration Project Proposal

Gold Exploration Proposal Near Goldfield Seeks Public Feedback

BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. – A new gold exploration initiative is under consideration, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is inviting public input on the Montezuma Gold exploration project. This venture is proposed for public lands situated roughly seven miles southwest of Goldfield in Esmeralda County.

Should the project receive approval, Kinross Gold Corporation plans to conduct drilling operations to search for gold. The exploration would span a total of 250 acres within a 5,672-acre area of public land. Post-exploration, the company is committed to restoring the altered lands to their original condition. Any subsequent mining activities would necessitate additional environmental evaluations and further opportunities for public input.

Interested parties can access more details, including the draft environmental assessment, by visiting the BLM National NEPA Register. Comments can be submitted via the ‘Participate Now’ option, which is the preferred method. Alternatively, comments can be mailed to: Bureau of Land Management, Attention: Montezuma Exploration Project, P.O. Box 911, Tonopah, NV 89409. The deadline for submitting comments is July 23, 2025.

For additional information, individuals can reach out to BLM Planning and Environmental Coordinator Jeff Kirkwood at BLM_NV_BMDO_P&[email protected] or (775) 635-4164.
