BLM Seeks Public Input on Land Sale for Affordable Housing in Henderson

LAS VEGAS — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is currently seeking public feedback on a proposed initiative to sell approximately 19 acres of public land near Las Vegas to the City of Henderson. This land is earmarked for the development of affordable housing and is located east of South Las Vegas Boulevard and south of East Larson Lane.

“The BLM has a long history of working with local communities to make public lands available for affordable housing where appropriate,” stated BLM Acting Director Bill Groffy. “We are happy to consider this proposal to support such efforts for the City of Henderson, which is in line with President Trump’s direction to pursue actions that expand the housing supply and lower housing costs for the American people.”

This proposed transaction is aligned with the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, a policy that allows the Secretary of the Interior, in coordination with the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, to offer specific public lands in Nevada for affordable housing purposes below the appraised market value. According to BLM Nevada’s Instruction Memorandum NV-2025-007, the land will be available at a reduced price of $100 per acre, a strategy designed to cut land acquisition costs and encourage affordable housing development.

The notice of realty action is set to be published in the Federal Register tomorrow. Interested parties can submit written comments to the BLM Las Vegas Field Office, addressed to the Assistant Field Manager, Division of Lands, 4701 North Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130. The deadline for comments is May 8, 2025.
