BLM Seeks Public Comments on Wild Horse Management in Eagle Complex

ELY, Nev. – As part of its efforts to manage wild horse populations, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is inviting public commentary on a new proposal regarding the Eagle Complex, which spans three herd management areas. The Caliente Field Office is responsible for overseeing the Eagle area situated in Nevada, while the Cedar City Field Office manages the Mount Elinor and Choke Cherry areas in Utah.

The current population of wild horses across these areas significantly surpasses the established appropriate management level, which is set at 145 to 265 horses for the entire complex. As of March 2026, estimates suggest there are approximately 2,093 wild horses. This overpopulation poses a threat to the habitats, leading to potential starvation and dehydration for the horses.

Further details can be found on the BLM National NEPA Register. The public is encouraged to email their comments to [email protected] or send them to the BLM Caliente Field Office, Attn: Tyler Reese, 1400 Front Street, Caliente, NV 89008. The deadline for comments is July 27, 2026.

For additional inquiries, please reach out to the BLM Caliente Field Office at 775-251-5250.
