ELKO, Nev. – In a move to gather community insights, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is inviting public feedback on the draft environmental assessment concerning the renewal of grazing permits for the Adobe Hills and Jackstone Allotments. This initiative is a crucial step in managing these significant land areas.
Situated north of Elko, NV, the Adobe Hills and Jackstone allotments collectively span around 28,686 acres of public lands alongside 22,728 acres of private lands. The lands are divided into 10 distinct pastures, with two in Jackstone and eight in Adobe Hills. Notably, these allotments are home to perennial streams that support the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout, a species currently listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. The proposal put forth aims to issue a unified grazing permit for both allotments, covering a decade. This new permit will introduce revised terms and conditions, supplemented by range improvements to meet these new standards.
Details, including the preliminary environmental assessment, are accessible on the BLM National NEPA Register. Comments can be conveniently submitted via the ‘Participate Now’ feature, which is the recommended method. Alternatively, feedback can be emailed to [email protected] or sent to the BLM Tuscarora Field Office, Attn: Adobe Hills and Jackstone Grazing Permit Renewal, 3900 E Idaho Street, Elko, NV 89801. The deadline for comments is March 30, 2026.
