BLM Proposes Land Sale for Anaconda Mine Site Cleanup in Nevada

BLM Proposes Land Transfer to Aid Anaconda Mine Site Clean-Up

In a move to promote environmental rehabilitation, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has suggested transferring 2,062 acres of public land at the Anaconda Mine Site in Lyon County, Nevada, to the Atlantic Richfield Company. This proposal is part of a concerted effort to remediate the site, which has been a focus for environmental agencies.

The BLM has collaborated with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, and Atlantic Richfield on a comprehensive clean-up strategy. In pursuit of effective remediation, Atlantic Richfield has requested to purchase five parcels of public land, including their underlying federal mineral rights, through a direct sale. This transaction is authorized under Section 203(f) of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act. The sale will occur at fair market value, as determined by the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.

A notice regarding this proposal will appear in Monday’s Federal Register, initiating a 45-day public comment period that concludes on April 9, 2026. For further details, including the final environmental assessment and a draft finding of no significant impact, interested parties can visit the BLM National NEPA Register.

Comments on the proposal may be sent via email to [email protected] or delivered in person to the BLM Carson City District Office, located at 5665 Morgan Mill Rd, Carson City, NV 89701.
