BLM Approves Temporary Closure of 22,987 Acres Starting March 2026

Temporary Closure Announced for Nearly 23,000 Acres by Bureau of Land Management

In a recent development, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has sanctioned a temporary closure for a substantial land area measuring approximately 22,987 acres. This closure, effective from March 25, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., restricts all public access and entry to the designated region. The affected area is located south of State Highway 375 and to the west of Alamo town. For detailed geography, refer to the map and closure order.

The primary aim of this temporary closure is to ensure the safety of individuals, protect property, preserve public lands and resources, and minimize potential conflicts among different land users. The decision adheres to guidelines established under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (FLMPA) and the regulations outlined in 43 CFR ยง8364.1.

Notably, the closure does not impact Federal, State, and local officials performing their official duties. Additionally, organized search and rescue teams, firefighters, and individuals with specific written authorization from the BLM are exempt from this order.

Activities associated with BLM contracts, agency personnel overseeing the closure, and operations conducted under an approved plan are also not affected by this restriction. Authorized individuals or groups must carry a written permit or contract, duly signed by an authorized BLM officer, to validate their exemption.
