In a strategic move to bolster the power infrastructure in Washoe County, the Bureau of Land Management has given the green light to the Lazy 5 transmission line project. This initiative is set to play a crucial role in mitigating potential power outages in the Spanish Springs area, as NV Energy anticipates a 4% annual rise in electricity demand.
The Sierra Pacific Power Company, under the umbrella of NV Energy, is tasked with the development of a 13-mile overhead transmission line carrying 120 kilovolts across a mix of private, county, and public terrains. The project also includes the establishment of a new Lazy 5 substation on a 17-acre plot owned by NV Energy in Spanish Springs, alongside a five-acre public land development for the Lemmon Valley substation. Additionally, a two-mile segment of an existing 120-kilovolt line between the Sullivan switching station and the Spanish Springs substation will be dismantled to accommodate the new infrastructure.
For those interested in visual details and further specifics, a map outlining the proposed project areas is accessible via the BLM National NEPA Register.
