Major Fiber Optic Expansion Set to Transform Internet Access in Nevada
RENO, Nev. — A significant development in Nevada’s digital infrastructure is underway as the Bureau of Land Management has given the green light to the Nevada Interstate 80 Middle Mile Project. This extensive project will establish a buried fiber optic network stretching about 404 miles along the I-80 corridor.
Enhancements to broadband internet quality and accessibility in northern Nevada are anticipated as a result of this project. Its objectives are in line with the MOBILE NOW Act and Executive Order 13821, both of which are focused on delivering affordable, reliable, high-speed internet access to all Americans.
Coordination of the broadband planning, mapping, and procurement is being handled by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology. This ensures that connectivity reaches schools, libraries, hospitals, clinics, and communities throughout the state, aligning with national standards.
