BLM Announces March 2026 Oil and Gas Lease Sale in Nevada

RENO, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has scheduled an oil and gas lease sale on March 31, 2026, which will feature 11 parcels encompassing a total of 19,957 acres in Nevada.

In September 2025, the BLM finished its scoping process for these parcels and subsequently held a public comment period that concluded in December 2025, focusing on the parcels and their environmental assessments. Today marks the beginning of a 30-day public protest period, which will end on March 2, 2026, allowing for further public feedback.

Leasing is a preliminary phase in the development of federal oil and gas resources. Before any development can proceed, operators are required to submit an application for a drilling permit, which must outline their development plans. The BLM is responsible for reviewing these applications, making them available for public scrutiny, conducting an environmental analysis, and collaborating with state partners and stakeholders.

Federal oil and gas lease sales include stipulations designed to protect significant natural resources. Details on current and future BLM leases can be found via the National Fluid Lease Sale System. All BLM lease sales are conducted online through EnergyNet.

Information regarding the analyzed parcels, along with maps and guidelines for submitting a protest, is available on the BLM’s ePlanning website: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2039811/510.

The BLM manages approximately 245 million acres of public land, primarily in 12 western states including Alaska, serving the American public. In addition, the BLM oversees 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate nationwide. Its mission is to maintain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for current and future generations.
