Whether you’re a parent seeking guidance or a professional in early childhood education, Michigan State University Extension offers a vast array of free online classes tailored to your needs. Extension Extra’s Parenting Hour

Parents and caregivers can benefit from free online workshops designed to navigate parenting challenges. These workshops occur on Tuesday evenings from 8:00 to 9:30 PM ET. Registration is flexible, allowing attendees to choose the sessions that best fit their schedule.

Kinship Caregiver Classes

These classes are specifically tailored for relatives who are providing care for a family member’s children.

Parenting Series

Building Strong Adolescents

This series supports parents and caregivers of children aged 9-16, focusing on fostering independence and positive relationships. Participants will explore key assets needed for children’s success over five weeks, with certificates of attendance provided.

The Parent Talk System

Designed for caregivers of children of all ages, this six-week series offers strategies to enhance communication, handle behavioral issues, and promote independence. Certificates of attendance and MIRegistry Credit are available.

Guiding Principles for Highly Successful Parenting

This five-week series aids parents in establishing routines, managing emotions, and addressing discipline. Completion of the class offers MIRegistry Credit and attendance certificates.

Early Childhood Professional Development Classes

Professionals in early childhood education can earn professional development training hours through these free online classes. MIRegistry Credit is available.

How Children Develop

Explore the stages of child development and gain insights to enhance your professional practice.

Purpose of Play

Understand the vital role of play in early childhood development and how it supports learning.

In-Person Workshop: Including All of Us

This six-hour workshop addresses diversity, equity, and inclusion in early childhood settings. It includes self-reflection activities and strategies for creating inclusive environments. Approved by MiRegistry, this program provides completion certificates.

Online Self-Paced Classes

Participants can complete these free online classes at their own pace, with certificates and MIRegistry credit available.

Positive Discipline

This course helps adults guide young children in developing self-control. Both a “parent and caregiver” track and a “professional” track are offered.

Infant Safety

In collaboration with the Livingston County Child Abuse Prevention Council, MSU Extension offers a course on infant safety, covering sleep, crying, and transportation. A completion certificate and MIRegistry credit are provided.

MI Parenting Resource

This online program supports caregivers by enhancing parent-child relationships and promoting positive behavior strategies.
