The City of Flint is set to enhance its public safety infrastructure with the construction of a new police and fire training center. This facility aims to provide advanced training opportunities and serve as a regional hub for emergency responders.
The ceremonial groundbreaking is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, at the intersection of Stewart Avenue and Industrial Avenue in Flint.
The training center will offer a state-of-the-art environment for Flint’s police and fire departments to hone their skills and improve their response capabilities. Beyond Flint, it will welcome emergency personnel from surrounding areas, fostering inter-agency collaboration and expertise sharing.
“This is an investment in the people who put their lives on the line every day to protect our community,” stated Mayor Sheldon A. Neeley. “We are creating a regional resource that will help police officers and firefighters from across our area prepare for the challenges they face every day.”
Ed Taylor, Chief of Staff and project leader, emphasized the center’s role in strengthening partnerships. “This facility is about bringing public safety professionals together, sharing knowledge and creating stronger partnerships across our region,” Taylor explained. “When our police officers and firefighters have the opportunity to train together, we are better prepared to work together when our communities need us most.”
The City of Flint anticipates the start of construction on this vital facility, which is expected to benefit public safety agencies in the region for many years.
