Prestigious Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medals to Honor Distinguished Leaders
In a celebration of academic and civic excellence, the University of Virginia is set to honor three luminaries with the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medals on April 14. The event, which coincides with UVA’s Founders Day festivities, will recognize significant contributions in the domains of law, citizen leadership, and architecture.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., television host Henry Louis Gates Jr., and architect Jeanne Gang will receive this distinguished accolade. Leaders from both UVA and Monticello will jointly present the medals, highlighting these individuals’ impact in fields that Thomas Jefferson esteemed highly.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to honor this year’s Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal recipients, who are each distinguished leaders in their chosen fields, and who embody the spirit of public service that Jefferson held in such high regard,” UVA President Scott C. Beardsley stated. “I congratulate this year’s medalists on all they have achieved and look forward to celebrating their extraordinary contributions.”
The awards ceremony in the Rotunda’s Dome Room marks the highlight of the Founders Day Weekend. This annual celebration commemorates Jefferson’s birthday and his legacy as the author of the Declaration of Independence, the third President of the United States, and the founder of UVA.
