UVA Honors Faculty for Excellence in Research and Funding Achievements

The University of Virginia has honored a select group of 14 distinguished faculty members, acknowledging their outstanding contributions in research and their success in obtaining funding. Numerous others were also celebrated for their impactful work in a recent event.

The Research Achievement Awards ceremony, held on February 5 at the historic Rotunda, was led by Vice President for Research Lori L. McMahon.

Addressing the audience, McMahon emphasized, “Across disciplines and schools, the people in this room are advancing knowledge and translating ideas into meaningful change. Everyone here contributes to the strength and resilience of UVA research.”

She highlighted the significant progress made over the past year, attributing it to “the hard work and dedication of our research community and the trust our partners place in UVA.”

Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Brie Gertler also recognized the dedication required to pursue research in academia, particularly during uncertain times. “When the world around us seems uncertain, there is certainty in being part of a community that continues to pursue answers and to create new ways of looking at what is happening around us,” Gertler noted.

University President Scott Beardsley commended the researchers for their role in fulfilling UVA’s mission to serve the public. He remarked, “The pursuit of new ideas, discoveries and innovations through research is essential to this University’s purpose. It is a public good and central to our mission to serve our community, the commonwealth, the nation and the world.”
