University of Iowa Proposes Parking Permit Rate Increases from July 1

Starting July 1, parking permit holders at the University of Iowa may face increased fees as the University’s Parking and Transportation department seeks approval for rate hikes. The proposed changes are intended to support the funding of essential maintenance and improvements.

The proposed adjustments in permit fees vary depending on the type of permit, with increases ranging from $1 to $6 per month. Additionally, some fines for parking violations may also see a rise as part of an effort to update the university’s outdated violation fee structure.

According to Debby Zumbach, associate vice president for business services and director of Parking and Transportation, “To keep delivering the level of service our campus expects, we need to make thoughtful updates to our rates in response to maintenance and material costs.”

The rate changes have been endorsed by the UI Parking and Transportation Charter Committee.

The Iowa Board of Regents is scheduled to review the rate proposal during its meeting on February 25-26 and will cast their votes on the matter in the meeting set for April 22-23.

Upon approval, current permit holders will receive an email notification later in the spring detailing the new rates applicable to their specific permit type.
