University of Iowa Begins Search for New Dean of College of Law

University of Iowa Initiates National Search for New Law Dean

The University of Iowa is embarking on a comprehensive national search to appoint a new dean for its College of Law. This initiative is in response to the impending conclusion of Dean Todd Pettys’ term, set to end on June 30, 2027. Upon the appointment of a new dean, Pettys will rejoin the faculty ranks of the College of Law.

Kevin Kregel, executive vice president and provost, expressed his appreciation for Pettys’ contributions, stating, “Todd has provided exceptional service to the College of Law and the University of Iowa, and I’m grateful for his leadership and partnership. His work has positioned the college well for its next chapter, and we look forward to building on that strong foundation as we identify the next dean.”

A search committee has been formed, comprising faculty, staff, students, and alumni, tasked with selecting the new law dean. The committee is co-chaired by Daniel Clay, dean of the College of Education, and Jill Wieber Lens, Dorothy M. Willie Professor in Excellence in the College of Law.

The committee includes the following members:

  • Bill Boyd, member of the Iowa Law School Foundation board of directors
  • Mihailis Diamantis, Ben V. Willie Professor in Excellence, College of Law
  • Amy Koopmann, assistant director for scholarly communications and innovation, University of Iowa Law Library
  • Elijah Redington, second-year student, College of Law
  • Duff Ridgeway, associate vice president for main campus development, UI Center for Advancement
  • Caroline Sheerin, professor of legal analysis, writing, and research; and director of bar success, College of Law
  • Adrien Wing, associate dean for international and comparative law programs and Bessie Dutton Murray Professor of Law, College of Law

The search process will be supported by the firm WittKieffer, which has been selected to assist in the endeavor.
