The University of Arizona Shines in Global Rankings
The University of Arizona (U of A) has been distinguished as a leading institution once again, securing a spot among the top 25 public universities in the United States according to the latest Times Higher Education rankings.
In the 2026 World University Rankings, the U of A achieved a global tie at No. 138, stood at No. 45 in the U.S., and was placed No. 22 among public universities nationwide. This marks the second consecutive year the university has maintained its prestigious position.
The U of A also placed No. 1 among universities in the Southwest – Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada and Utah – and No. 15 among state flagship universities.
This year’s rankings encompassed 2,191 universities from 115 countries, expanding by 99 institutions from the previous year. The U of A remains in the top 7% globally, with its highest scores in research quality, scoring 86.1 out of 100, and industry engagement, scoring 80.6.
Notably, the university excelled in subject-specific rankings, securing a position in the top 100 globally for physical sciences (tied at No. 50) and social sciences (tied at No. 95). The physical sciences ranking notably jumped 15 spots from last year, placing the U of A at No. 25 in the U.S. and tied for No. 11 among public institutions.
Times Higher Education has been a prominent evaluator of higher education for over two decades. This year, the organization assessed research-intensive institutions using 18 performance indicators across five categories, each weighted differently:
- Teaching: 29.5%
- Research environment: 29%
- Research quality: 30%
- International outlook: 7.5%
- Industry (income and patents): 4%
