Coffee & Careers Welcomes DHS Lawyer for Recruitment

On November 17, Temple University’s Beasley School of Law is set to hold a recruitment session under its Coffee and Careers initiative, featuring a lawyer from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This event, part of a recurring collaboration with DHS, notably excludes ICE officers from participation.

“This is a routine lawyer recruitment event that has regularly been held at the Beasley School of Law with the Department of Homeland Security,” stated a university spokesperson in a communication to The Temple News.

Temple University President John Fry clarified in an August 25 announcement that there have been no reports of ICE officers present on campus as of August. While ICE officers may access public areas, those from ICE and Customs and Border Protection must possess a warrant to enter Temple buildings or collect personal information from the university community.

The university advises its staff to direct officers with warrants or lawful court orders on private property to the Office of University Counsel, as outlined in their guidelines.

Previously, in response to national ICE activities affecting college campuses and increased student visa revocations, Temple has urged international students to be cautious about traveling abroad.
