Savannah Bananas Games and Iowa City Events: Traffic Advisory

As Iowa City gears up for an exciting Fourth of July weekend, residents and visitors alike should prepare for an influx of events and potential travel disruptions. With the Savannah Bananas slated to play two sold-out baseball games at Kinnick Stadium, a Big & Rich concert in Coralville, and the Iowa City Jazz Festival downtown, traffic and parking are expected to be challenging.

Traffic Tips for Savannah Bananas Fans

The Savannah Bananas will take the field at 7 p.m. on both July 3 and 4 at Kinnick Stadium. Parking lots will be accessible starting at noon, and attendees are advised to arrive early to secure a spot. Following the game on July 3, baseball fans are recommended to use the First Avenue exit in Coralville to avoid congestion from the nearby Big & Rich concert, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at S.T. Morrison Park. Concert-goers are encouraged to head west on Highway 1 towards Coral Ridge Mall to access Interstate 80.

Meanwhile, the Iowa City Jazz Festival will commence at 5 p.m. on July 3 and continue at 11 a.m. on the fourth, culminating with fireworks at approximately 9:45 p.m. Those attending any of these events should anticipate and plan for traffic delays.

Street Closures for Jazz Enthusiasts

Downtown Iowa City will experience street closures starting at 6 a.m. on Friday, July 3, extending through the late night of Sunday, July 5, to accommodate the Iowa City Jazz Festival. Affected streets include Clinton Street between Jefferson and Washington Streets, and Iowa Avenue from Clinton to Dubuque Streets. While Dubuque Street from Jefferson to Iowa Avenue will remain open to traffic, public parking will not be available.

Signs indicating “No parking” will be placed ahead of time, and any vehicles not removed will face towing. More information is available on the city of Iowa City website.
