Summer Nutrition Programs play a vital role in combating food insecurity among children, especially during summers when school meal programs are unavailable. These programs help ensure that children continue to receive the nutrition they need for growth and development, thus preparing them for the upcoming school year.
In North Carolina, the Department of Public Instruction’s Office of School Nutrition administers various nutrition programs, including the Summer Nutrition (SUN Meal) Programs, with support from the USDA. More information about these initiatives can be found on the Office of School Nutrition website.
