Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Carnegie Mellon University’s Lunar Gala continues to captivate audiences with its blend of fashion, art, and culture. This year, the much-anticipated event returned to CMU’s Weigand Gym on March 15, showcasing student creativity and innovation.
The theme for this year’s gala was FABLE, described as “an anthology of the fantastical worlds that color our identities, stepping through imaginations, and memories across people, times, and spaces.” The fashion show featured an impressive array of 17 fashion lines crafted by CMU students, highlighting their talents in design, modeling, and production, as well as dance performance.
Leading the production were Katherine Wang, a senior majoring in music and business administration, and Yui Ishibiki, a senior in chemical engineering. Their collaborative efforts ensured the show’s success, blending various elements into a cohesive and engaging presentation.
The Lunar Gala traces its origins back to a tradition by the Taiwanese Student Association, where new clothes were donned to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Over the years, it has transformed into a dynamic platform for showcasing avant-garde fashion and innovative design, maintaining its cultural roots while expanding its creative horizons.
