A contractual dispute is threatening to sideline Broward County Public Schools’ students from participating in upcoming color guard and marching band competitions.
On Friday, directors of color guard teams received a notification from WGI, a nonprofit that organizes competitions for color guard, percussion, and winds. The message highlighted the potential exclusion of students from the 2026 season unless the school district finalizes a necessary contract for participation.
Concerned about the situation, Broward parents are rallying the community to address the matter at the Broward school board meeting on February 10. In an effort to expedite a resolution, over 4,000 individuals have already signed a Change.org petition. The urgency is underscored by the upcoming regional WGI competition in Tampa, scheduled to commence in two weeks.
