Brad Rohrer Named CIO and Associate VP at University of Iowa

University of Iowa Welcomes New Chief Information Officer

Brad Rohrer

In a significant leadership change at the University of Iowa, Brad Rohrer has been appointed as the new chief information officer and associate vice president. Currently serving as vice president for information technology and chief academic and research information officer at the University of Miami, Rohrer is set to commence his new role on February 23.

Rohrer’s responsibilities at the University of Miami include overseeing key IT projects that bolster academic and research endeavors across its various campuses and medical facilities.

He takes over from Steve Fleagle, who is retiring this spring after dedicating 40 years to the University of Iowa.

“Brad has an impressive background leading the IT enterprise at an AAU university with an academic medical center,” says Laura McLeran, UI vice president for administrative affairs and senior advisor to the president. “We are excited for the experienced leadership, expertise, and collaboration he will bring to the entire campus as we continue to navigate the changing IT landscape that is our world today.”

The selection process for Rohrer involved his participation as one of two candidates who were invited to the campus for interviews in December. The search was spearheaded by Clark Stanford, dean of the College of Dentistry, and Sarah Hansen, vice president for student life.

Rohrer’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in criminology from Florida State University and a Master of Science in management of technology from the University of Miami.

“I am honored to join the University of Iowa and grateful for the confidence Laura and the leadership team have placed in me,” Rohrer says. “I am eager to listen, learn, and build upon the strong foundation already in place in close partnership with faculty, staff, and students across campus. I look forward to helping the university navigate what’s next with purpose, clarity, and collaboration.”
