In a significant boost for Davidson County’s economy, Supreme Nonwoven Inc. is set to create 50 new jobs in Lexington, North Carolina. The company, known for its advanced nonwoven materials, is investing $25.8 million in its first U.S. manufacturing facility, underscoring North Carolina’s prominence in the textile industry.
New Manufacturing Hub in Lexington
The facility, spanning over 200,000 square feet, will serve as a technical collaboration center, bringing Supreme Nonwoven Inc. closer to its North American clientele. This strategic move facilitates customized material solutions, ensuring clients receive advanced nonwoven technologies tailored to their needs.
Governor Josh Stein expressed enthusiasm over the development, stating, “I am proud to welcome Supreme Nonwoven and the good jobs it will bring to Davidson County.” He emphasized North Carolina’s status as a leader in textile innovation, supported by a skilled workforce eager to assist global companies.
Long-term Commitment to the U.S. Market
Supreme Nonwoven Inc. is a subsidiary of India-based Supreme Group, founded in 1986 by Mohan Kavrie. With a rich history in sectors like apparel and automotive, the company aims to fortify its presence in the U.S. by bringing its technology closer to regional customers.
Amit Kavrie, Managing Director of Supreme Group, highlighted the importance of the new facility, stating, “Our decision to establish this facility in North Carolina reflects a long-term commitment to serving the U.S. market with locally manufactured nonwoven materials.”
Manoj Swain, Director of International Operations, added, “Lexington offers us a strong base from which to support customers with responsiveness, technical collaboration, and reliable execution.”
Economic Impact and Workforce Development
The new positions will offer an average annual salary of $55,800, surpassing the Davidson County average of $54,395. This development is projected to add an annual payroll impact of $2.79 million to the local economy.
A $100,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund will support the company’s establishment in the state. This fund aids local governments in attracting economic investments, with companies required to meet job creation and capital investment targets to receive payments. Local government participation is a prerequisite for any grant awards.
North Carolina Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley highlighted the state’s strength in the textile sector, noting, “North Carolina’s textile industry continues to set the standard for excellence and innovation.” The state boasts the nation’s largest concentration of nonwoven firms and a significant textile manufacturing workforce.
Community Support and Partnerships
N.C. Senator Steve Jarvis lauded the investment, stating, “Investments like this create good jobs, strengthen our local economy, and demonstrate confidence in the business-friendly climate we’ve worked hard to build across North Carolina.”
Representative Larry W. Potts echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that Supreme Nonwovens’ decision to invest in Lexington validates the region’s workforce and business environment.
The initiative is supported by several partners, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the North Carolina General Assembly, and the Davidson County Economic Development Commission, among others.
