New Funding Initiative to Boost Apprenticeships in Pennsylvania
In a strategic move to enhance workforce development, the Pennsylvania administration under Governor Josh Shapiro has allocated substantial funds to expand registered apprenticeships across the state. This initiative is part of the larger 2026-27 budget plan, aiming to provide more opportunities for industry-specific training.
The budget, recently signed by Governor Shapiro, allocates $3 million to the Foundations in Industry Training (FIT) Grant Program. This funding is intended to support the creation and expansion of apprenticeship programs, which are crucial for equipping the workforce with necessary skills. Since its inception by the Shapiro Administration in 2023, the program has already seen investments exceeding $11 million, reflecting the state’s commitment to workforce education.
“Our focus is on building a robust workforce by providing pathways to high-quality training and employment,” stated a spokesperson from the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development. The FIT Grant Program is designed to partner with businesses and educational institutions to ensure apprentices receive comprehensive training that meets industry standards.
