Midland Achieves Redevelopment Ready Certification from MEDC

LANSING, Mich. – Midland has achieved a significant milestone in economic development by earning the Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) certification, as announced by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). This certification acknowledges Midland’s efforts to enhance municipal assets and attract private investment.

With this designation, Midland joins an elite group of 94 communities across Michigan now recognized for their thorough planning and zoning readiness. The certification is designed to remove obstacles and create investment opportunities. For a full list of Redevelopment Ready Communities, click here.

“Our mission at MEDC is to support Michigan’s strong economic momentum and empower communities to establish a strong planning, zoning and economic development foundation,” stated MEDC SVP of Community Planning and Development Readiness Michele Wildman. “The City of Midland is well positioned to continue to implement their vision for the future and further improve the quality of life for its residents. We look forward to building upon our relationship with the City of Midland and supporting local economic development efforts.”

As part of the RRC program, Midland underwent a comprehensive assessment of its current community and economic development practices against RRC standards. The certification signals that the city has effectively removed barriers and streamlined processes, making it more attractive to investors.

Mayor Maureen Donker expressed enthusiasm about the recognition, stating, “We are excited about Midland being recognized as a Redevelopment Ready Community. It not only confirms that we are focused on the right priorities, it also opens doors to resources that will further strengthen our appeal to both residents and businesses.”

With RRC certification, Midland gains access to new tools and ongoing support to achieve its development goals. The certification is valid for five years, with annual reviews to ensure continued adherence to best practices.

City Manager Brad Kaye emphasized the importance of this achievement, saying, “Being recognized as an RRC Certified community highlights Midland’s commitment to efficient, responsible, strategic growth. Through careful planning, zoning, and streamlined development processes, we are moving forward together toward a stronger Midland.”
