Johnson & Johnson to Establish Advanced Cell Therapy Facility in Pennsylvania
The global leader in biopharmaceuticals is set to enhance its footprint in Pennsylvania with a new state-of-the-art cell therapy manufacturing site.
This significant investment by Johnson & Johnson underscores Pennsylvania’s robust life sciences sector, a vital component in the Commonwealth’s Economic Development Strategy.
Harrisburg, PA – The Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary, Rick Siger, announced today that Johnson & Johnson, a global healthcare titan, will further invest in Pennsylvania by constructing a next-generation cell therapy manufacturing facility. This initiative not only strengthens Johnson & Johnson’s existing operations in the state but is also expected to generate numerous advanced manufacturing jobs.

Focusing on innovative medicine and MedTech solutions, Johnson & Johnson aims to significantly impact health on a global scale. The company, which currently employs over 138,000 individuals globally, maintains a strong presence in Pennsylvania with several research, development, and manufacturing facilities.

This move is part of a broader expansion of Pennsylvania’s biotech ecosystem. Companies such as Eurofins, Apozeal Pharmaceuticals, B. Braun, and GSK have also announced significant expansions in the state, contributing to job creation and research and development investments.
The life sciences sector in Pennsylvania employs more than 100,000 people across nearly 3,100 companies and research institutions. The state ranks fourth nationally for new life sciences patents over the past five years, with over 10,700 patents filed.
Since the Shapiro Administration began, over $35.9 billion in private sector investments have been secured, resulting in the creation of more than 18,800 jobs.

- Pennsylvania is the sole Northeastern state with a growing economy, as highlighted in a report from Axios based on Moody’s Analytics by Chief Economist Mark Zandi.
