Refrigerated Warehouse Expansion Set to Boost Kingman’s Economy
In a move poised to impact Arizona’s logistics landscape, Interstate Warehousing has announced the development of a new refrigerated facility in Kingman. Slated to open in 2023, this venture not only enhances the company’s operational capacity but also promises to create 70 new jobs.
Interstate Warehousing, a global leader in refrigerated warehousing, held a groundbreaking ceremony signaling the start of construction on a 92-acre site in Kingman, Arizona. The new facility marks an expansion of the company’s presence on the West Coast, addressing the demand for cold storage solutions in that region.
John Tippmann, Jr., President of Interstate Warehousing / Tippmann Group, highlighted the strategic benefits of the location, stating, Over the years, we have had several customers express an interest in having Interstate Warehousing provide a West Coast alternative to meet cold storage needs, and Kingman, Arizona has proved to be a perfect location for IWI.
He emphasized that the site offers excellent access to key markets such as Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.
The initial phase of the new facility, measuring 273,000 square feet, will include a 55-foot clear ceiling space designed to accommodate over 30,000 pallets. The warehouse will feature advanced turret trucks operating in narrow aisles to optimize storage capacity. Additionally, the site will house a two-story office and 43 dock doors for truck operations.
Commenting on the development, Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, said, Interstate Warehousing’s state-of-the-art cold storage facility showcases Arizona’s attractiveness as a premier logistics hub.
She further mentioned that the facility would diversify the distribution and logistics sector in Mohave County while providing quality employment opportunities.
Future plans for the site include the potential to expand up to 1.2 million square feet as demand increases. Interstate Warehousing is currently the fourth largest public refrigerated warehouse operator in the U.S., managing over 115 million cubic feet of space nationwide.
The project construction is being managed by Tippmann Construction, a subsidiary of the Tippmann Group, which also oversees Interstate Warehousing. The new facility is anticipated to be fully functional by the end of 2023.
