Governor Katie Hobbs Unlocks $993M for Arizona Broadband Expansion

Arizona Secures Nearly $1 Billion for Statewide Internet Expansion

In a significant leap towards digital inclusivity, Arizona has secured nearly $1 billion to enhance internet connectivity across the state. The approval of the second volume of Arizona’s application for the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program was announced by Governor Katie Hobbs, marking a pivotal step in expanding reliable internet access to every corner of the state.

After more than a year of engaging stakeholders, gathering public input, and strategizing at the state level, Arizona’s plan to deploy the $993 million in BEAD funding is set to roll out. This initiative aims to ensure that internet services are not only accessible but also reliable and affordable for all residents.

Broadband is the thread that connects all of us, and with this funding we are going to make sure our networks are accessible, reliable, and affordable for every Arizonan, stated Governor Katie Hobbs. She emphasized the transformative potential of this funding, which is expected to foster job creation, strengthen communities, and enhance the quality of life. Hobbs assured that efforts will continue to ensure the funds contribute to a prosperous Arizona for all.

Echoing the governor’s sentiments, Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, remarked, Today’s announcement represents a historic milestone that’s been years in the making and follows countless hours of engaging with our local community partners. She highlighted the critical link between high-speed internet access and economic opportunities, particularly in rural areas, and expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of federal, state, and local partners.
