Pennsylvania’s Energy Sector Set for Major Boost with Eos Energy’s Relocation and Expansion

Governor Josh Shapiro and his Administration have competed for and won nearly $26 billion in private sector investments since taking office, creating more than 13,200 new jobs, and driving economic growth across Pennsylvania.

Harrisburg, PA – Pennsylvania is set to reinforce its status as a leader in clean energy with a significant announcement made by Governor Josh Shapiro. Eos Energy Enterprises, a leading manufacturer of American-made zinc-based battery storage systems, will relocate its headquarters from New Jersey to Pittsburgh and expand its manufacturing operations in Allegheny County. This $352.9 million investment is projected to create and retain a total of 1,000 jobs, including 735 new positions.

The Commonwealth will support this strategic move with a $22 million investment through grants and capital funding, further establishing Pennsylvania’s role as a hub for clean energy manufacturing. Since Governor Shapiro took office, Pennsylvania has been the only state in the Northeast with a growing economy, attracting close to $26 billion in private-sector investments and creating over 13,200 new jobs.

Eos’s new headquarters is slated to open in 2026 at Nova Place on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. Meanwhile, the company’s expanded 432,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Marshall Township will bolster large-scale battery production. This expansion will also foster collaborations with Carnegie Mellon University and other local institutions to advance energy technologies.

In a related development, Eos has partnered with Talen Energy Corporation to develop energy storage projects in Pennsylvania. Utilizing Eos’ Z3 zinc-based batteries and Talen’s existing generation assets, the partnership aims to create multiple gigawatt-hours (GWh) of storage capacity to enhance grid reliability and support the region’s clean energy transition.
