Ecobat Expands Into North America With New Lithium-Ion Recycling Facility
In a significant move to bolster battery recycling capabilities, Ecobat, a leader in the battery recycling industry, is set to establish its first North American lithium-ion battery recycling plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. The new facility aims to initially recycle 10,000 tons of material annually, with plans for future expansion to meet growing demands.
CASA GRANDE, AZ (February 20, 2023) — The new facility by Ecobat marks its third such plant globally, following successful operations in Germany and the United Kingdom. This strategic expansion is expected to generate over 60 new jobs, contributing to the local economy and the broader push for sustainable energy solutions.
Ecobat CEO Marcus Randolph expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, We are thrilled to grow our global lithium-ion battery recycling footprint with a new facility in Casa Grande, Arizona.
He emphasized that this venture aligns with Ecobat’s broader strategy to scale up its lithium-ion battery recycling operations to match its leading position in lead battery recycling.
The Casa Grande plant will focus on repurposing end-of-life lithium-ion batteries. Through processes such as diagnostics, sorting, shredding, and material separation, the facility will produce a concentrated black mass containing the valuable materials found in these batteries. The site is strategically located just a mile away from Ecobat’s existing anode manufacturing facility, leveraging over 15 years of technological expertise and skilled workforce.
According to Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, With the addition of yet another global battery innovator, Arizona has become a central hub of energy storage and recycling technologies.
The state-of-the-art facility is expected to enhance Arizona’s sustainability efforts while broadening its battery industry and creating skilled employment opportunities.
The facility, which is anticipated to commence operations in the third quarter of this year, aligns with Ecobat’s commitment to sustainable recycling solutions. The company holds key International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certifications, underscoring its dedication to environmental, safety and health, quality, and energy management standards.
Casa Grande Mayor Craig McFarland welcomed the company, noting the importance of sustainable practices in dealing with the transition to electric vehicles. He remarked, Congratulations to Ecobat and thank you for bringing your company and jobs to our community.
