A New Milestone for Stanton in Community Development
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has announced the City of Stanton’s achievement of the Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) Essentials designation. This recognition highlights Stanton’s efforts in crafting a streamlined development process and a cohesive vision for community growth.
The RRC program, a voluntary initiative launched statewide in 2013, encourages communities across Michigan to adopt best practices in planning, zoning, and economic development. The program’s goal is to make communities more appealing to investors by ensuring they are development-ready and competitive in today’s economy.
Michele Wildman, MEDC SVP of Community Planning & Development Readiness, expressed praise for Stanton’s achievement, stating, “We applaud the City of Stanton for achieving Essentials status. Stanton has identified its desired direction for the future and has a plan to achieve its goals for the community. We look forward to building upon our relationship with the city and supporting its continued economic development efforts.”
The RRC program offers two designations: “Essentials” and “Certified.” By earning the Essentials designation, Stanton has demonstrated a commitment to a clear vision and the practices needed to achieve it. The city has successfully incorporated essential documents and processes to ensure a predictable development experience, adhering to Michigan’s planning and zoning laws.
Mayor Bill Ferguson of Stanton shared his excitement, saying, “It is an honor for the City of Stanton to be recognized as an Essentials Redevelopment Ready Community. Our citizens have been hoping for growth and with that growth, job opportunities. We hope that with this recognition, we can continue to develop more opportunities for growth with new businesses and growth in the technology used to govern our city.”
Currently, 87 communities in Michigan have been recognized at the Certified level, while 37, including Stanton, have achieved the Essentials designation. These communities stand out for their comprehensive planning and zoning strategies, which minimize traditional barriers for investors. For a full list of Redevelopment Ready Communities, visit here.
