Arizona’s Future48 Workforce Accelerators Honored by Business Facilities

Arizona’s Innovative Workforce Initiatives Garner National Recognition

In a notable achievement for the second consecutive year, Arizona and the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) have been acknowledged for their pioneering economic development strategies. Business Facilities Magazine has highlighted the state’s efforts by naming the Arizona Commerce Authority as one of the six state winners in its annual Economic Development Organization (EDO) Awards. This accolade underscores the success of the Future48 Workforce Accelerator programs, which are designed to drive community growth through substantial capital investment and job creation.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs expressed her appreciation, stating, Arizona is setting a new standard for workforce excellence with the state-of-the-art workforce programs. She emphasized the importance of the Future48 Workforce Accelerators in equipping Arizonans with skills vital for industries such as manufacturing, semiconductors, and automotive.

Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, echoed these sentiments, saying, We’re honored Arizona has been recognized for our workforce development efforts with the Future48 Workforce Accelerators. Watson highlighted the collaborative approach involving government, education, and industry to address workforce needs effectively.

Expansion of Future48 Workforce Accelerators

The Future48 Workforce Accelerators draw inspiration from the successful Drive48 facility in Pinal County, a collaborative effort between ACA, Central Arizona College, and other local entities. Drive48 has trained over 2,400 students since its inception in 2021, focusing on automotive manufacturing skills.

Since 2023, Arizona has announced the launch of four additional Future48 Workforce Accelerators:

  • Battery-focused Accelerator – In collaboration with Pinal County and LG Energy Solution, this program focuses on training for cylindrical lithium-ion battery manufacturing.
  • Semiconductor Accelerator – Partnering with Maricopa Community Colleges, this initiative supports the burgeoning semiconductor sector in the state.
  • The Yuma Accelerator, in association with Arizona Western College, offers training in fields such as electrical technology and solar installation to bolster the aerospace and defense industries.
  • The Kingman Accelerator supports manufacturing, transportation, and mining industries, leveraging its location at Kingman Airport and Industrial Park.

In the previous year, Business Facilities had already acknowledged Arizona’s growth in the semiconductor industry, with the state leading in investments exceeding $100 billion since 2020.
