Apozeal Expands in Bucks County, Adds 70 Jobs with $4.1M Investment

Boosting Pennsylvania’s Economic Growth: Apozeal Pharmaceuticals’ Major Expansion

The expansion of Apozeal Pharmaceuticals Inc., a pharmaceutical drug manufacturer based in Bucks County, marks a significant development in Pennsylvania’s economic and employment landscape. The company is set to expand its Levittown facility, a move that promises to create new jobs while retaining existing ones, further cementing Pennsylvania’s position in the biotech and life sciences sector.

Governor Josh Shapiro has announced a $4.1 million investment for Apozeal’s expansion, supported by a $1.1 million state investment. This investment will facilitate the creation of at least 70 new jobs and help retain 22 current positions. The expansion is part of Governor Shapiro’s broader economic strategy, which has attracted over $25.2 billion in private sector investments and created more than 11,200 jobs across the state since he took office.

Apozeal currently produces four FDA-approved Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) products and various over-the-counter (OTC) items. With this expansion, the company will add new production lines at its 70,000-square-foot facility, enabling the manufacture of seven additional ANDA products and further OTC products.

Governor Shapiro highlighted the state’s strengths in the biotech and life sciences sectors, stating, “Pennsylvania is a leader in biotech and life sciences with a talented workforce, access to key markets, and significant laboratory infrastructure. Apozeal’s continued growth in our Commonwealth strengthens this legacy while creating more opportunity for Pennsylvanians.”

The funding proposal for Apozeal includes a $925,000 loan from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA), a $150,000 Pennsylvania First Grant, and a $100,000 WEDnet grant for worker training, as announced by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

DCED Secretary Rick Siger emphasized the importance of the life sciences sector, noting, “Life sciences is one of the five key sectors outlined in our Economic Development Strategy, and we’re focused on ensuring this industry continues to thrive in Pennsylvania.”

Apozeal, which traces its origins to Biopharm Inc., acquired the Levittown facility in 2023, aiming to produce all its FDA-approved products domestically. Sadath Shareef, Chairman and CEO of Apozeal, expressed gratitude for the state’s support, stating, “We’d like to thank Governor Shapiro and his team for their support and investment of $1.1 million towards this expansion.”

Leading the Nation in Life Sciences

Pennsylvania’s life sciences sector employs over 100,000 people across nearly 3,100 companies and research institutions, with expectations to add over 6,500 jobs in the coming decade. Governor Shapiro’s administration has been instrumental in driving economic growth, having secured over $25.6 billion in private investments since he took office, including a historic $20 billion investment from Amazon.

Governor Shapiro’s economic strategies include a proposed $50 million investment to spur innovation across the Commonwealth, with a focus on growing life sciences jobs and supporting large-scale innovation. This initiative is part of a broader budget proposal that aims to expand workforce development and support economic competitiveness across various regions in Pennsylvania.
